The SKAT vertical turning machine is designed for use in general machining and flexible production as well as for the complete machining of railway wheels and similar low profile, heavy material removal parts. The machine is equipped with two rail heads. The table is supplied with a three-jaw hydraulic/mechanical chuck. The adjustable chucking force is automatically monitored during the machining process. The AC main drive motor has 150HP as standard.

The SKAT vertical lathe has a fixed crossrail. The SKAT machine has two specially adapted chain tool magazines for 30 tools and two adjustable storage places for the applied tools. The tool magazines are located on the floor on the right and left sides near the machine bed, outside of the working area. The machine has fully enclosed guarding to keep chips and coolant inside the machining environment. The machine is equipped with the Sinumerik control system. The vertical lathe can also be supplied with an automatic workpiece manipulation system.
